Cattle Ear Mites

Cattle Earmites

While studying hearing in cattle, we discovered that many have a serious earmite infection that affects their hearing. Our experience indicated that earmites can be controlled with systemic insecticides; treating an infected animal by putting insecticide into its ear was not effective as the ear canal is filled with pus that keeps the insecticide from reaching the mites.
